Simplest Gallery: questions and answers

Updated November 3, 2026

Practical answers for Simplest Gallery.

How does Simplest Gallery organize photos?

It discovers images in your chosen folder inside wp-content/uploads and turns folders and subfolders into gallery sections. Add the simplest_gallery shortcode to a page or post; its folder attribute can select a particular folder and descendants.

What does it require?

Use WordPress 6.0 or later, PHP 8.0 or later and a writable gallery directory inside WordPress uploads. Add photos through your existing file-management workflow. Supported image types include JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and AVIF.

Can I add descriptions, hide folders or rename them?

Yes. Settings > Simplest Gallery provides folder and image descriptions and folder controls. Renaming changes the folder on disk. Hiding removes it from gallery output but does not restrict direct access to the image URLs.

Does the plugin include a lightbox or photo preview modal?

No. Images link to their original files. A preview modal must come from your theme or another integration; compatible themes can use the documented gallery event for preview counting.

Can it display offloaded images and count views?

Local galleries work independently. With the separate Uploads to S3 plugin configured, verified images in its configured S3 uploads location can also be discovered. Optional view counters store aggregate totals without IP addresses, visitor identifiers or tracking cookies.

Why is a folder missing from my gallery?

Check that it is inside the configured uploads gallery path, contains supported images and is not hidden in settings. For offloaded files, confirm the Uploads to S3 location and verified object discovery. Share the folder structure and versions without private photo URLs or storage credentials.

Where can I buy the product and check support terms?
