Uploads to S3: questions and answers

Updated November 3, 2026

Practical answers for Uploads to S3.

What does Uploads to S3 do?

It copies files from configured WordPress storage paths to your Amazon S3 bucket and can rewrite eligible public media URLs to your S3 or CDN address. You choose the paths, environment prefixes, synchronization options and public URL.

What do I need before connecting storage?

Use WordPress 6.0 or later and PHP 7.4 or later, an S3 bucket and AWS credentials with the permissions needed for your selected operations. AWS storage, requests, delivery and other service charges are separate from the plugin.

Can I use existing media and CloudFront?

Yes. Synchronize an existing configured path or adopt matching objects when the local files are unavailable. CloudFront is optional: configure the distribution in AWS first, then set its public domain as the plugin public base URL.

Will the plugin immediately delete my local files?

Local-source deletion is a per-path option. Begin with a small path and deletion disabled, verify uploaded objects and actual media URLs, and keep a recoverable backup. Enable deletion only after confirming the intended storage and delivery behavior.

Does URL rewriting make every S3 object private?

No. Public media delivery and private downloads need different access rules. Configure bucket policies and your application download controls for each use. Never treat a hidden URL or a disabled WordPress download button as proof that the underlying S3 object cannot be requested.

What should I include in a storage support request?

Include your WordPress and plugin versions, the affected path, the operation you ran, the resulting error and an example public media URL if appropriate. Do not include AWS access keys, signed download URLs or private customer files.

Where can I buy the product and check support terms?
