Give your media room to grow

Keep application code on your web server and configured media in Amazon S3. Uploads to S3 synchronizes selected storage paths and rewrites eligible public media URLs to your configured S3 or CDN address. Optional local-source deletion can reduce disk usage after objects are successfully stored or positively verified.

Migrate at your pace

Sync one path manually or use the hourly schedule for enabled paths. Review results, skip existing objects and keep selected files or folders local with ignore rules.

Keep environments separate

Use domain-to-prefix mappings for development and production installations sharing a bucket. Add custom storage paths when your integration needs them.

Use your delivery stack

Serve public media from S3 or an existing CloudFront distribution. Configure the CDN in AWS, then use its public domain as your base URL.

Build on documented helpers

Integrate direct uploads, public object URLs and object streaming in your own plugins. Scheduled S3-to-local backups leave S3 as the master.

A careful first sync

  1. Install the plugin, then open Settings → Uploads to S3.
  2. Set your bucket, region, credentials and domain-prefix mapping.
  3. Enable one small storage path with local-source deletion off.
  4. Sync, check the actual uploaded objects and public URLs, then enable URL rewriting.
  5. Keep a recoverable backup before enabling local-source deletion more broadly.

Public media URLs need readable objects. Private downloads need their own bucket policies and application authorization. URL rewriting alone does not make an object private.

What you’ll need

WordPress 6.0+, PHP 7.4+, an S3 bucket and appropriate AWS credentials. AWS services are billed separately.
